University of Ghana Increases Fees For 2016/2017 Academic Year – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The University of Ghana has increased tuition fees by as much as 20 per cent for its Ghanaian students for the 2016/2017 academic year.

Fees for international students have also seen a marginal increase of about 1 per cent from $4,657 to $4,717 for freshmen pursuing humanities courses.

In a publication circulated by the Student’s representative council, all fees for freshmen must be paid in full before registration while continuing students are to make a minimum of 70 per cent payment to register for their semester program.

It is unclear what may have accounted for the high increase in fees, however it is believed the new fees includes charges for utilities used by students  on campus.

Local students offered admission for the 2016/2017 academic year will pay a non-refundable fee of GHc1,444 from GHc1,213 paid last year for those pursuing courses in the humanities.

The fees for accommodation in the various traditional halls on the school’s main campus has been increased from GH¢693 to GH ¢812.

The University of Ghana has a total student population of about 38,000 with majority enrolled in various regular undergraduate programs at its Legon Campus.
