The Public Relations Officer of the Distance Education Students Representative Council, Sylvester Eli has stated that the collection of GHC50.00 from students will go into the purchase of some souvenirs and organization of events aimed at facilitating the smooth transition of the freshmen into the University.
Since the admission of students to pursue various programmes on the distance education of the University of Ghana for the 2016/2017 academic year, Univers News has sighted the collection of an amount of GHC50.00 from freshmen at various collection points in front of the School of Continuing and Distance Education and Accra City Campus.
Speaking on Campus exclusive on Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer explained that the souvenirs shall range from t-shirts, exercise books and the privilege to attend their events such as the ‘Freshers-Day-Out’ and the Akwaaba Dinner, at a subsidized amount.
“Students who will register for the GHC 50 will be entitled to some souvenirs. We will also be organizing a ‘Freshers Day Out’, a program to take our freshers out to socialize and create some kind of links between themselves and an ‘Akwaaba Dinner’… You know the GHc50 cannot cover for the lacoste, exercise book and these two programs so we’ll use part of the money together with some sponsorship we are trying to get”, he said.
He however reiterated that, the positioning of the collection points would not have been visible if was associated with undertones of illegality.
