The Public relations officer of the National Service Scheme Mr. Ambrose Entsiwa has made known that volunteer turnout at the various national service centres has been encouraging so far. In an exclusive interview with Univers News on Thursday, Mr. Entsiwa explained that reports from a number of User Agencies across the country indicate that attendance was satisfactory with some of them reporting as early as yesterday. He was however expectant of an increased number in turnout in the coming days. The Public Relations Officer was quick to add that Service volunteers are to report before the 15th of this month or risk forfeiting their allowance for the month of September.
“I have received some information from a number of user agencies that service personnel have started reporting, in fact some of them even reported yesterday to go through some orientation programs for their various institutions. We suspect that some may want to go tomorrow [Friday] or Monday and it is important for people to report before the 15th of this month [September] to be able to qualify for service allowances for the month of September 2016.”
Mr. Entsiwa further revealed that processing is currently underway on the applications received with regards to the six-month-service-extension period for the already existing personnel. He however added that the secretariat will, with respect to that, publish the list of the new placements within the shortest possible time.
“We are currently processing the applications that were submitted online for those that opted for that kind of extension. We will soon release the new placement for them to be able to start their service.”
He also reiterated that the secretariat has extended the period of registration to the end of September 2016 to enable service personnel who have not completed their biometric registration to do so.
