This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) begins on Monday, June 13 with 461,013 final-year Junior High School (JHS) students from 14,267 public and private junior high schools writing the examination.
The number is made up of 239,963 males and 221,050 females, who would be supervised by 15,695 invigilators.
They are expected to write the examination at 1,598 examination centres across the country.
According to WAEC, 441,561candidates would write the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) paper, while 192,539 would be tested in French. WAEC said 57 visually impaired candidates would also take part in the examination.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Reverend Jonathan Bettey, the service has made all the necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth exercise across the country.
He revealed that the service and the West African Examinations Council, organizers of the examinations are enforcing new security regulations to avoid examination malpractices and leakage of exam questions.
He further advised parents to acquire rain jackets and other protective clothing for their wards to enable them conveniently go to the exam centres to write their papers in case of the onset of rains.
