Businesses Need To Be More Innovative – Ms. Cobbah – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Indigenous Ghanaian businesses have been asked to be more innovative to help sustain them on the path of growth.

Ms. Esther Cobbah, Chief Executive Officer of Stratcom Africa, said they needed to find new ways of doing things to survive the stiff competition from foreign products.

She was speaking at the opening of the 9th annual applied research and technology fair of the Koforidua Polytechnic.

The three-day event was held under the theme “Applications on innovation in transforming businesses”.

Ms Cobbah spoke of the need to undertake proper market research to support product development.

It was also important to give priority attention to the packaging of made-in-Ghana goods to boost their appeal to consumers, she added.

She said timeliness of products delivery, availability and accessibility were the other variables critical to progress of the local businesses.

She noted that “timeliness and availability” had been the downside of the indigenous companies and these must be tackled.

“Sometimes people want to buy made-in-Ghana products but because these are often not readily available they are left with no choice but to buy the foreign ones which are always readily available.”

Ms. Cobbah encouraged the youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills and take bold decisions to set up their own businesses.

Professor Mrs. Smile Dzisi, Rector of the Polytechnic, said the fair was an integral part of the school’s academic calendar.

She expressed optimism that it would provide the platform for industry, entrepreneurs, policy makers and other actors to discuss ways of strengthening the performance of local companies.
