Prez Mahama Pays For Actor William Addo’s Eye Surgery – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

President John Dramani Mahama has made full payment for veteran actor William Addo’s second eye surgery.

This was disclosed by Mr Addo on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Thursday.

According to him, the president upon hearing news of his urgent need for money to undergo a surgery called him and assured him of footing the bill and subsequently delivered on his promise.

“He called to say he has received information regarding my plight and was sorry about how things have turned out. He promised to pay for the second part of the surgery which will come on next month. So I was very surprised that an ordinary William Addo could get such a favour. On the 4th, Mr Beautiful [Clement Bonney] called to say that president has given him the money to pay for the surgery and another GHC 2000 for my upkeep,” he told host, KMJ.

Mr Addo mentioned that the amount has been paid to the clinic and is waiting to undergo the surgery for the right eye.

He expressed appreciation for the gesture and also thanked KMJ and the entire Hitz FM family for being the first radio station to interview him at the time he needed help for the first surgery.

“I want to thank him [Mahama] most sincerely and pray that God himself will keep him in good hands so he continues his work and do it well. I’m so grateful to you people. God himself will bless all of you,” he said.

The 66 year old actor on March 30, 2016 revealed he has been diagnosed of glaucoma and fears he will go blind if he is unable to raise GHC 5,000.

After Abrantepa.com published the news, some people supported him and was able to undergo the surgery successfully. He was however not aware that the amount was just for one eye and later had to solicit funds for the second surgery.

William Addo before appearing in a number of Ghanaian movies was a stage actor. He studied at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts and was retained as a teaching assistant at the school after he graduated.

He later had a scholarship to do his masters abroad and came back as a lecturer in charge of acting at the institution. After some time, he was sent to the National Theatre where he was in charge of concert party productions.
