The Swift intervention by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service this morning (11:45 GMT) prevented what could have been another fire disaster at the Balme Library of the University of Ghana.
It is however unclear what might have caused the fire but reports indicate that smoke emanated from an air condition at the second floor of the 24 Hour-Reading Room Apartment in the Library.
The workers at the facility surprisingly drove to the Legon Branch of the Fire Service to inform the personnel of the incident. The personnel rapidly dispatched one water tender to bring the fire under control.
Univers news can now confirm the situation has been brought under control with no casualties recorded.
The Balme Library is the major facility at the University of Ghana that serves students, faculty, researchers and the general public.
