A Law Professor at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, Professor Yenkong Ngangjoh has asserted that good governance is a sure way to encourage education in Africa.
Addressing a gathering of Law Students of the University of Ghana School of Law, the Professor stated that;
“African education should also be encouraged. It is a question of good governance. We have to put the infrastructure in place to ensure that students can have the best education because if we have a system where hardwork does not reward then it is difficult for people there to aspire to study in those kinds of institutions. We have to change the mindset of how businesses are done. If it is business as usual we would not catch up with the competition. The competition out there is massive”, he said.
Professor Ngangjoh further advised students to take keen interest in studying further abroad as this would open their minds and broaden their horizon as well as learn lots of things about their continent.
He explained that engaging in further studies abroad will also equip the students to come back home to be able to compete well in their various countries.
The professor admitted that though there may be financial challenges, it was not impossible as any hardworking student can get the needed grades that is required to study abroad as well as the number of scholarship regimes that were available for these students.
