Audit Service Donates To School of the Blind – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The Audit Service has donated assorted items worth GHȼ 8, 000.00 to the Akropong School for the Blind. The items include bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, bundles of toilet rolls, cartons of milk, cartons of Milo, cartons of drinks and bags of sugar.

The rest were loaves of bread, boxes of biscuits, boxes of key soaps, boxes of tin tomatoes and disinfectants. In addition to the items, Audit Service also presented a cash of GHȼ 2,000.00 to the officials of the school to help in the management of the school. Reverend Joseph Kingsley Ghunney, the Director of the Public Affairs Unit of the Audit Service, said the donation formed part of a long standing relationship between the two entities.

He said the donation which was made possible through the contributions of Management and staff of the Service, showed how members hold the School in mind and at heart. “It is a contribution from our own salaries and not from government funds and this underscores the importance we attach to this gesture,” he said.

Rev Ghunney noted that, the Audit Service had instituted a programme dubbed: “Annual Accountability Lectures,” aimed at sharing knowledge with stakeholders. “And for this year, the Management and Planning Committee agreed to make a special donation to the school which is not the first time, ” he said.

Rev Ghunney added that doing this would help the Service to identify needy institutions, special schools, orphanages and communities to reach out to. Madam Mahela Narh, the Headmistress of the School, receiving the items thanked Management and Staff of Audit Service for their support saying: “This is real love shown to us, as government alone can’t do it.

“We appreciate your efforts,” she said. Madam Grace Owusu Addo, Akuapim North Municipal Director of Education told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that, the donation was laudable as it takes people with compassion to do that from their salaries. “It takes those with the heart and touch of God to do what they have done today,” she said.

Madam Addo appealed to other institutions and corporate bodies to emulate the kind gesture of the Staff and Management of the Service. Some students also expressed happiness about the donation that would go a long way to make their stay in school worthwhile. This year’s Annual Lectures is on the theme: “The Good Governance and Accountability through Stakeholder Participation in the Public Financial Management System.”
