Former Ghana premier league champions Accra Great Olympics have gained promotion into the top flight of Ghanaian football after beating Tudu Mighty Jets by 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the GN bank division one league week 29 fixtures.
Great Olympics have to come back from a goal down to win their last away game in zone 3. The former African cup club champions semi finalist were got relegated in the 2014-2015 Ghana premier league season on the final after amassing only 40 points after 30 games.
The Accra-based club joins zone 2 champions Elmina Sharks who are bankrolled by Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum to play in the 2016-2017 Ghana premier league with zone 1 yet to be determined.
Olympics are making a quick return to the elite division after just a season of struggle in the ‘wilderness’ of Ghanaian football.
Speaking on Accra based Citi fm after the game, former Hearts of Oak and Black Stars defender Dan Quaye believes it was due to hard-work and dedication that’s why they were able to make a quick return into the premier league just after a season.
“Our guys are very young and they fought very hard in all our games, but our vision for next season in the Ghana premier league is to stay in the topflight and home the management will be united to push us to achieve that aim when the next season starts in the Ghana premier league”—–Dan Quaye
