Residents of Jubilee Hall at the University of Ghana have to wait for another 24 hours to know the aspirants for the various position in the hall’s election.
This became necessary after the Electoral Commission for the hall failed to validate if some of the aspirants were of good standing. The announcement came as a surprise to residents who were poised to elect new leaders to take over from the Owua Hene Adjei led administration.
Prior to the elections some candidates were disqualified by the Electoral Commission of the hall for failing to meet the minimum academic requirement which nullified their candidature to contest the elections.
The disqualification was overturned when the disqualified aspirants returned with evidence that they did indeed meet the academic requirement.
But speaking in an exclusive interview with Univers news, Deputy Electoral Commissioner of the Hall, Mr. Kweku Boakye says despite the setbacks, the commission is working assiduously to hold the elections come Wednesday November 9, 2016. He has however failed to name the aspirants whose academic standing are to be validated.
Meanwhile the Dean of Students Affairs at the University of Ghana, Professor Francis Nunoo have indicated that there has been some anomalies with the academic records of some of the aspirants which needed to be verified.
He noted that his office is currently liaising with the academic affairs directorate to determine the credibility of the academic records in question after which a final decision will be made.
