Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party has announced that the December election would be the determinant of the future of students in the country. Speaking at the launch of the campaign for the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON), Nana Addo announced that the students of Ghana had been brought out of focus by government, hence the neglect of the plight of students in its daily administration.
Nana Addo who was flanked by high ranking officials of the party including running mate of the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Agyarko, former contender of the flagbearer in the party’s congress, Mr. Alan Kyeremanteng, as well as former Greater Accra regional minister, Mr. Sheikh I. C. Quaye, former Indian High Commissioner, Prof. Mike Ocquaye, National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Sammy Awuku among many others, pledged to commence a restructure of the finance policy of tertiary education in the country in order to ensure its accessibility to all Ghanaians.
Addressing the teaming crowd who had filled the open air space to capacity, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia bemoaned the damage the ruling NDC government had served the Ghanaian economy. He opined that the NPP government in eight years had managed with a meagre GHS 20bn to create a sustainable economy that was actively promoting massive development in social interactions among the people of Ghana against the NDC who had killed a substantial amount of the NPP’s social interventions, irrespective of the whooping GHS 248bn the NDC government had generated. He observed that the major crisis that had bedeviled the country were a result of mismanagement, incompetence and corruption. Dr. Bawumia revealed that the NPP was committed to providing jobs for graduates. He intimated that the proposal of the one district one factory policy was a step in ensuring that the youth gained meaningful employment after school. Dr. Bawumia added that the NPP government would provide tax incentives to firms that employed graduates in order to serve as an incentive that would eradicate graduate unemployment in addition to the removal of taxes from production to be replaced by income taxes in order to ensure round year productivity. He urged students and the general public to entrust Ghana into credible hands who had near perfect policies to transform the state of affairs of the country.
Meanwhile, some students who spoke to Univers’ Eleazer Quayson after the event expressed optimism at the ability of the NPP to deliver on its promises.
TESCON President of the University of Ghana, Mr. Maxwell Takyi noted the readiness of the Confederacy to ensure a win for the party in the elections. He expressed appreciation to the student body for their cordial and positive response to the call to grace the flagbearer’s visit. He called on students to vote for the NPP as a way of protecting their future against mismanagement and corruption.
This is the second visit of the flagbearer of the NPP to the campus of the University of Ghana.
