The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur has given indications the Ghana Police Service will not take lightly comments or actions that will jeopardize peace and security of the upcoming elections.
Speaking in an exclusive Interview with Universnews’ Nii Armah Ammah, He said the service is bent on dealing with persons whose comments are deemed illegal and likely to cause violence or mayhem in the country.
“If anyone does anything that tantamount to causing mayhem and problems in public, the police will come into action and do their work” He said.
The Police PRO further added that the police service is unconcerned with anyone or groups of people who alongside the Electoral commission collate and announce electoral results, as far as it doesn’t breach the law.
“The Police doesn’t have any problem with anyone doing something legitimate, But if a person does anything that is criminal or breaches the law then we will come in and do our work, But find out from the EC whether there are laws preventing people from announcing election results, The authentic results announcement will definitely have to come from the EC”
The Police PRO made the comments following a strong claim by the Campaign Manager of the new patriotic party, Mr. Peter MacManu that his party could declare this year’s elections results and cannot be stopped by the Police or officials of the Electoral commission. The Campaign Manager of the NPP, has however denied media reports that his party intends to declare its own results during the general elections in November. He added that, his party will rather collate the results alongside the EC.
Clarifying his comments, Mr. Peter MacManu added his comments was premised on the fact that the party would not allow any institution manipulate the election results as it will ensure only the true and accurate results are circulated.
