All is set for the quarter finals of the ongoing 2016 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) at the University of Ghana. This stage of the competition has seen some seeded schools bidding farewell to the competition as they were kicked out by unassuming schools in the one-eighth stage of the competition.
Out of 27 seeded schools that were expected to progress to the quarter finals, only 13 have booked a place into Thursday’s competition. This has ignited a lot of debate on various social media platform with some predicting one of the lesser known schools to win the trophy this year.
Some of the most talked about contests in the one-eighth stage was KNUST SHS and Nifa SHS eliminating five (5) times champions, Presbyterian Boys, Legon and 1998 winners of the NSMQ, Achimota School respectively. 2005 Champions, St. Peter’s SHS also lost to SDA SHS in the 12th in series of the one-eighth stage.
The quarter finals even promises to be more thrilling and exciting with 27 schools to battle out for a place in the semifinals of the 2016 National Science and Maths Quiz.
Defending champions, Prempeh College will be facing Wesley Girls’ High School and Mfantsipim School in what many have described as the group of death.
Below is the pairing for the quarter finals of the 2016 NSMQ with winners of the first, second and third contests locking horns to book a place in the semi finals.
