Lt Col Clement Laryea a staff at the 37 Military hospital has said the bats who have their habitat on the trees just opposite the 37 Military hospital has created problems for both patients and staff who stay around the Hospital.
Speaking on Radio Univers morning show Campus Exclusive, he said the bats has been a nuisance for everyone associated with the hospital despite attempts by the wildlife association and the public health department of the 37 Military Hospital to be relocated even though the process might take a long time.
“The Hospital has lived with the bats for ages, the bats is a nuisance for everyone, day-in, day-out the wildlife committee and public health department also have a great interest, There are plans to relocate the bats, They are part of the ecology They have been there for over 75 years” he said.
Lt Col Clement Laryea was however unable to state the exact time the bats will be relocated permanently.
He also called on the general public to support the Hospital’s 75th year anniversary.
The Theme for the hospital’s 75th Anniversary celebrations is “Celebrating our legacy progressive future, and ensuring client satisfaction through quality service”
He also called on Medicine and Nursing students in the various tertiary Institutions to take advantage of the hospital’s week celebrations and broaden their skills.
The 37 Military Hospital was 75 on July 4.
Established on July 4, 1941, the hospital began with a modest number of 29 wards but now boasts 400 beds, with many specialized units and a working staff over over 2000 personnel including Military officers.
It serves as the government’s emergency response health facility and, over the past years has become the main hospital in charge of major disasters in the country.
Immediate past national disasters handled by the hospital are the 2001 stadium disaster which killed more than 120 soccer fans and the June 3, 2015 fire and flood disaster which occured at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle which took the lives of over 150 people.
Lt Col Clement Laryea further revealed the hospital is now a United Nations Level 4 Military Medical facility which provides healthcare for UN soldiers and workers from conflict areas in the sub-region.
