GES Press Statement On 2016 BECE – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The Director General of the Ghana Education Service,Mr Jacob Kor earlier  issued a press conference  about the Computerized School Selection and Placement System concerning the 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E).

According to him, the number of candidates who registered for the 2016 examination was 461,009. Out of this number, 456,398 obtained their choices representing 99% B.E.C.E candidates and the number placed so far is 437,958 which represent 95%.

“Vacancies has been created from 860 public and private senior high/technical and vocational institutes with the provision of additional Community Day Senior High Schools for the 2016/2017 academic year”,  he noted.

Re-entry of candidates who deferred from attending second cycle institutions have been given the opportunity to reapply this year while 1,892 candidates have so far been considered for placement on the basis of their raw score and choices, he added.

Placement analysis carried out on the 2016 BECE results received from WAEC indicated an an improved  performance in the total scores of the candidates for this year.With a total score of 600 being the maximum raw score in six subjects (i.e four core subjects plus two best subjects), 3,994 candidates got over 500 , which has never happened in the history of BECE.

“We have realized that the CSSPS placement for this year has shot up to 96.5% as against 95.0% for last year and our hope is that all the newly completed Community Day Senior High schools , will start functioning by October 7, this year”, the director general further stated.

The Management of G.E.S seized that opportunity to announce its road map for the first year students of Senior High School ,

He further advised that Heads of schools avoid the denial of admission to any student on their placement list , nor charge unauthorized fees in order not to attract the penalty of the loss of the position as a head.

“GES does not encourage and will not encourage protocol admission . In accordance with CSSPS guidelines students who do not get their first choice will be placed in their 2nd and 3rd choices respectively”, the director general of Ghana Education Service Mr. Jacob Kor highlighted.
