Derrick Abotsi, the local president of National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) of the University of Ghana was relieved of his duties on October 9,2016.
In an official letter signed by Esinam Afi Seade, the UG SRC president, gross insubordination, non-performance of constitutional duties among others were cited as the basis for his dismissal.
This is yet another incident to bring the Esinam-led administration into focus, regarding how things are run as some students have outrightly condemned the dismissal of Mr. Abotsi.
Below is the official release indicating the dismissal of Mr. Derrick Abotsi:

Sunday, 9th October 2016
SUBJECT: TERMINATION OF APPOINTMENT
Notice is hereby given to all students of the University of Ghana as well as all other stakeholders that, MR. DERRICK ABOTSI, who was in service as the Local NUGS President of the University of Ghana SRC is from today, 9th October, 2016, relieved from all his duties for the following reasons.
1.Gross Insubordination
2.Refusal to perform constitutional duties. (concerning the welfare of UG delegates)
3. Bringing disrepute to the name of the University by threatening to deprive some delegates of their right to vote.
All students should take note that Mr. DERRICK ABOTSI has no authority to conduct any business in the name of the SRC.
