Senior Tutor of Akuafo Hall at the University of Ghana, Dr. Vincent Von Vordzorgbe has admitted to some challenges Senior Tutors are faced each academic year in allocating inner rooms to students of the various hall due to the pressure on them for these rooms.
Speaking to Univers News, the senior tutor explained that the craving for this facility is rife making the placement a herculean task for the management of the halls of residence, especially among female students.
“The Inner room thing is real. Every year during registration that is the kind of thing you face. There is a crave for it especially among females. When all females have their quiet spaces, you can be sure so that they can keep food they prepare and other items they use under lock to prevent others from using. Some males too but otherwise it is the quest to have that seclusion”, he said.
Inner rooms are single room facilities that provide some form of separation, away from other students. They are normally allocated to final year students though the criteria for allocation may differ from hall to hall.
Dr. Vordzorgbe asserted that the main reason for students’ desire for these rooms was the privacy it offered for occupants to privately conduct their lives and activities in the hall.
He further noted that sports men, floor representatives, students with special needs, office holders, religious leaders who happen to be hall members entreated with sensitive documentation and final year students as some category of individuals who may be entitled to inner room allocation.
