The University of Ghana SRC President, Ms. Esinam Afi Seade has pledged her commitment to work with management in making the University a world-class citadel of excellence.
According to her the student body is privileged to be associated with the Vice Chancellor’s vision in providing a congenial environment for students and faculty for effective teaching and learning at the University of Ghana.
“We are really happy to be associated with the vision of the Vice Chancellor which is novel. It’s one that every student including their representatives share into. We are ready to support management to make the University at par with world class institutions.” Ms. Seade said.
The SRC President further assured the entire students body for their concerns to be factored into the reviewing of Undergraduate Programme and Grading System.
“Students have always express great reservation on how management regulate the grading system but because of the representation of students on some of the boards and committees, they’ll ensure that there is a leverage for students to make inputs into the reviewing the grading system.? she said.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu said in his first ever media interaction on Radio Univers serious concerns on the gruelling nature of the grading system; one that has greatly disadvantaged students especially in the sciences.
Ms. Seade spoke to Univers news at the sideline of the launch of the Strategic Teams at the University of Ghana.
These teams have been tasked with the responsibility of coming up with innovative ways that will advance the university’s progressive match towards the achievement of greater recognition within the global academic community as well as ensure high academic and research standards which will contribute to national and world development.
The Students Representative Council of the University of Ghana has been made part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Green Team.
The team among other things will seek to increase the greening of the campus through the planting of grass and trees, as well as implementing environmental sanitization programs such as good waste disposal practices led by students and their leaders.
The SRC President indicated that plans are far advanced in implementing the “LEGTUBE” project, her major campaign program during this year’s University of Ghana SRC elections. The project when executed will provide students with virtual versions of physical lectures at their convenience.
According to Ms. Seade the University management has taken over the implementation of the project but due to the inadequate resources and WIFI services on campus; the piloting of the “LEGTUBE” project could not materialize this semester. She was however hopeful that come second semester of the 2016/17 academic year, the project will come to fusion.
“As we speak the the initiator of the SAKAI has been asked to work on the pilotig the project. We were thinking the piloting will be done this semeseter but unfortunately their resources and the WIFI system was not adequate. The LEGTUBE, I must say is a lump sum of all the things that will better the academic structure of the university.” Ms. Seade explained.
The LEGTUBE is also in line with the VC’s vision for the University of Ghana to beat world competition through effective virtual capacity and increase competition in the tertiary educational space both nationally and globally.
