National Coordinator for the Computerized School Selection and Placements System, Mr. Kwesi Abankwa Anokye has advised students to confirm their selected schools to ensure their smooth transition in to the second cycle institutions. Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Monday, Mr. Anokye explained that this initiative was implemented to prevent the yearly recurrent discrepancies bothering on the preferred senior high school as against the ones their system allocates to students.
He however implored students and guardians with legitimate bases to relay their concerns to their Junior High schools in accordance with due procedure to facilitate the necessary changes before the release of the of the Basic Education Certificate Examination results.
“What you have to do is just text the 10-digit index number to the short code 1060 and you can do that on MTN, Vodafone, Airtel or Tigo. When you do that the four schools you chose in February will appear on your phone for you. In that situation if it comes and you have any issues with the schools… you will write to the school to the Junior high school, the junior high school will also write on your behalf to our office then we will make the change for you. We want to avoid the situation whereby after doing the placement, any parent or guardian will walk to our office and say I did not choose this particular school. At that particular time it will be too late for us to effect any change” he said.
The National Coordinator was however quick to add that his unit has extended the deadline for application for prospective senior high school students who did not get the opportunity to enter senior high schools in previous years to apply before the 14th of November to secure a place in the 2016/2017 academic year.
“If you know any candidate who completed JHS in 2013 but will want to go to senior high school in 2016, all that he or she will have to do is to walk to any education office to pick a form, or go to the WAEC website and download a form. Fill it and attach it and attach a copy in the result slip and we will include him or her… they have the opportunity to buy until September 14, the opportunity still exists for those candidates.” He added.
The forms have been on sale since April and ended in August 23rd, prior to its extension.
