Jean Nelson Students Chose Hallweek T-shirt Over Reading Room Rennovation- JCR – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Students of the Jean Nelson Akah Hall in the University of Ghana,- The Nation’s Premier University opted for hallweek branded T-shirts instead of the renovation of the hall’s reading room, this is according to the Junior Common Room (JCR) treasurer of the Jean Nelson Akah Hall Mr. Dominic Kyei.

Financial Secretary of the Jean Nelson Akah Hall, Dominic Kyei revealed that per his personal assessment and interaction with Student residents of the hall, more of the students opted for the hall’s branded hall week T-shirts instead of renovation works for the reading room adding that the JCR  budget for the hall could  not cater for both provisions.

According to him, the hall’s general assembly initially planned to renovate two reading rooms but after a series of broader consultations with students, the student leadership of the hall decided to buy more T-shirts for the Hall instead of the planned renovation works.

However, rather surprisingly not all students of the hall were given the hall branded T-shirt, residents of the hall have expressed their frustration at the situation  adding that they equally paid in full their JCR dues hence wondered why they had been maligned.

But speaking on Radio Univers  Morning show Campus Exclusive, Dominic Kyei mentioned that though every student in the Hall paid their JCR Dues in full, the hallweek branded T-shirt wasn’t meant for all students in the hall because they only printed enough to help with publicity.

In a related development, 1st deputy speaker of the Jean Nelson hall general assembly, Mr. Derrick Xatse has also accused the Hall of financial misappropriation with regards to the renovation of the Hall’s reading room.

Mr. Derrick Xatse has subsequently dragged the student leadership of the hall to court.

The leadership of the Jean Nelson Akah Hall JCR has come under fire in the past week for some alleged cases of financial misappropriation at the JCR level.

The Hall JCR Leadership has also been accused of over-pricing the budget.
