University of Ghana Shuttle Fares To Increase By 43 Percent Next Month – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Students of the University of Ghana have expressed mixed reactions toward the intended increment in shuttle fares on campus. While some welcome the decision, others say the move would add to their woes.

Their reactions come in the wake of recent announcement by the Road Safety & Transportation Consultancies (RSTC), providers of shuttle service on the University of Ghana campus that the fare will be increased from 70 pesewas to GH¢1 effective December 2016. According to the Chief Executive Officer of RSTC, Mr. Godfred Akyea- Dankwah the 43% increment has become necessary due to the rising cost of operating the shuttle service as well as low patronage of their services.

The University of Ghana in October last year inaugurated the shuttle service, under a Public Private Partnership with Road Safety and Transport Consultancy (RSTC) Limited. The inauguration of the 10 new buses was to enable staff and students have better and easy access to facilities on campus.

But speaking on Campus Exclusive this morning Mr. Akyea- Dankwah said the 43 percent increment would be channeled into proper maintenance of buses as well as cover for the increment in fuel prices.

He further added that the move was also geared towards procuring more buses to meet the diverse demands of students and appealed to students to corporate with management.

Mr Akyea- Dankwah also said plans are far advance in introducing an electronic system of payment for shuttle users. The initiative he said will offer customers the opportunity to get discounts on payments each time they patronize their services.
