The University of Ghana has been in full swing in the last few days with many halls of resident electing new crop of leaders to stir the affairs of the various Junior Common Rooms (JCR) on campus.
On Friday; a total of four halls elected new leaders for the 2016/2017 academic year. These halls include Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall, Dr. Hilla Liman Hall, Prof. Alex Kwapong Hall as well as Jubilee & International Student Hostel.
Some of these elections did not take place without dissension; in which case some aspirants were disqualified and prolonged the electoral calendar of the hall.
In the case of Jubilee hall, the Electoral Commissioner failed to validate the academic records of some aspirants before the proposed date for the elections. It took the intervention of the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Francis Nunoo to cancel the elections in order to ascertain whether or not the aspirants were of good standing before the elections could take place.
At the Elizabeth Frances Sey hall, the EC was alleged to have instigated a presidential aspirant in bribing him to rig the elections in their favour.
But when the issue was arranged before court, the Commissioner produced an audio tape in which the presidential hopeful was said to have promised to offer the former a sum of ¢3000 to rig the polls for them.
In a unanimous decision the Judicial Board of the hall found the embattled aspirant Mr. Prince Amponsah guilty and disqualified him from contesting in the race.
Meanwhile the candidates for the other two halls (Dr. Hilla Liman & Prof. Alex Kwapong) played their cards fairly with no allegations or altercation.
