University of Ghana (UG) Coach Meme Falconer has arrived in New York City to attend the 2016 NBA Draft which takes place tonight at the Barclays Center. The charismatic coach who was at the helm during UG’s unbeaten run to win the GUSA(Ghana Universities Sports Association) Games Basketball competition, is in the Big Apple to witness one of his former trainees Ben Bentil, get drafted into the league.
Per reports gathered by Basketballghana.com, the former University of Education-Winneba standout will join Bentil’s mother Faustina Bentil at the ceremony where renowned basketball prospects will gain entry into the world’s premium league.
Having tutored Bentil before his departure to the States and during visits, Bentil has credited Falconer as a major reason behind his success. Bentil burst onto the spotlight after an outstanding year with Providence College where he averaged 21 points and seven rebounds to be named Most Improved Player of the Year in the Big East Conference.
His prolific scoring culminated in winning the conference’s scoring title. The 6 foot 8 inch Ghanaian Forward has been pegged to be drafted by Chicago Bulls at 48 per NBA.com’s projections whilst nbadraft.net has him going to the New Orleans Pelicans at 39.
Bentil’s teammate, Point Guard Kris Dunn, is expected to be a top ten pick.
