Leadership of the Accra City campus chapter of the student representative council of the University of Ghana, has petitioned the Pro Vice- Chancellor for Academic and student affairs, Prof Samuel Kwame Offei to change the payment plan of school fees for students of the Accra city campus from the usual 70%-30% to a 50%-50% for the 2016/2017 academic year.
This will allow students to make a minimum payment of 50% of their school fees before the beginning of the first semester of the academic year unlike the usual payment plan which ensures that students pay a minimum of 70% of the school fees before the beginning of the first semester of the academic year.
In the petition signed by the President of the Accra City campus chapter of the student representative council of the University of Ghana, Mr. Abekah Emmanuel, he pleaded with the Pro Vice- Chancellor to accept a 50%-50% payment plan since the fees have been increased to a level that when the old payment plan is applied, students will not be able to beat registration deadline due to their inability to pay the fees before the deadline.
He explained that most students have expressed intentions of deferring their courses due to the high rocketing fees they are supposed to pay.
From the petition addressed to the Pro Vice- Chancellor for Academic affairs, there has been an increment in the fees of the Bachelor of Science students by 14.38% amounting to an increment from GHC 2,163 to 2,466. And there is an increment in the fees of the Bachelor of Science students by 13.47% which has amounted to an increment of the fees from GHC 2.662.00 to GHC 3,015.00
