The Ghana Technology University College(GTUC) has climaxed its 10th Anniversary Celebration at a short ceremony held in Accra on the forecourt of its main campus.The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including the Minister of Education; Naana Opoku Agyemang, the Former Vice Chancellor of KNUST Professor Kwasi K. Adarkwa.
The theme for their milestone was dubbed “Connecting the dots” borrowed from story shared Steve Jobs shared. The College reached its milestone on 15th August 2016,since it was inaugurated .
“We are connecting a decade of distinguished leadership of GTUC in education in Ghana. We are connecting the dots of our past; how far have we come (our present); our challenges; the significance of our achievements; and how our institution has impacted our society, the West Africa sub-region and the world at large”, the President of GTUC said at the ceremony.
Speaking at the function , Minister for Education , Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang said her outfit is putting in measures to send technical education to another level. According to her there is too much emphasis placed on humanities at the tertiary level.
“ There is too much emphasis placed on humanities with little emphasis on technical education . We need to take another look at teaching Science and Maths because they form the basis of technical education”, she further stated.
She also announced thousands of teachers are being retrained at the basic level to grow the interest of basic education students.
A five year strategic plan which spans from 2016 to 2021 has been dubbed “VISION 2021” was launched .These plans include ;
1. Increase in student awareness and participation programs
2. Scholarship intellectualcreation
3. Promoting teaching excellence
4. Enhancing leadership in community activities
5. Promoting Virtual education
6. Enhancing infrastructural development
7. Ensuring Global Impact
8. Promoting an enterprise university
9. Enhancing financial stability
10. Improve , Faculty and staff welfare and development.
