Four inmates of the Sunyani central prison in the Brong-Ahafo region have excelled in the just ended 2015/2016 edition of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to a press statement signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Mr. Vincent Ziniel, the four are currently being prepared to pursue a Diploma in Business Studies in one of the country’s tertiary institutions.
The four, Dennis Kwadwo Nyatse, Jonathan Ziri, Eric Anning and Kinsley Baffour, who are currently serving different jail terms, registered as private students in five subjects and with tutoring from some prison officers, they excelled in all.
Presently, eight other inmates are being tutored by some personnel at the prison.
Univers News also learned that the Prison Service is in talks with some tertiary institutions countrywide to extend Distance Education programs to qualified inmates.
The service therefore called on corporate Ghana and well-meaning individuals to support imates in their academic pursuits, as government cannot take sole responsibility.
