Management of Kessben University College have thrown delegates at the on going USAG Congress out of their school premises. This had eventually led to the dissolution of the USAG Congress. Relaying the information to delegates, president of the University students association of Ghana, Mr. Henry Nkosuo stated that management of the school believe their properties are not in safe hands after few misunderstanding between delegates over the disqualification of some candidates by the vetting panel.
The vetting panel had earlier on released its report indicating aspirants who have been disqualified from the race. Reading the report of the Committee, chairperson of the vetting committee, Mr. Wilson Dabo stated that results for all portfolios have been finalized except that of the presidential portfolio.
According to him, Mr. Malik S. Y Basintalle who happens to be one of the aspirant for the presidential portfolio is under investigation for claims leveled against him during the vetting. He explained that Mr. Basintalle was expected to provide some documents to help the investigative process which he has refused to provide.
Mr. Wilson concluded that the candidature of Malik Basintalle had been suspended by the vetting panel until investigations are completed. Though the specific documents to be presented by Mr. Basintalle have not been revealed, reliable sources close to Univers news indicates that the documents had to do with his academic records.
This decision of the vetting committee saw fierce opposition from some delegates who were followers of Malik Basintalle. According to them, there is no constitutional provision that makes candidates provide the documents the vetting panel had requested. They also stated that the vetting panel had enough time to probe into claims leveled against the candidature of Mr. Malik Basintalle and it was unfair for them to have suspended him few hours to the election.
Some of the delegates then engaged in verbal exchanges with executives of USAG and members of the vetting Committee. This led to the destroying of some properties of the school. The district police quickly intervened to put the situation under control.
Meanwhile president of the Student representative council of University of Ghana Ms. Esinam Afi Seade stated that majority of SRC president who form USAG and present at the Congress have lost confidence in the current USAG administration hence have decided to set the executives aside and facilitate the electioneering process. She revealed that they have agree to call for NEC meeting to choose acting executives who will manage the affairs of USAG until the election is held.
President of USAG, Mr. Nkosuo however assured delegates that his outfit is working assiduously to resolve differences between delegates and the vetting committee. He stated that his outfit was unaware of any document that was expected of Malik Basintalle. He revealed that the vetting committee have given Mr. Basintalle an ultimatum of two weeks to provide the necessary documents needed by the committee. Mr. Nkosuo stated that his outfit have dissolved this year’s congress and will communicate details for an emergency congress after all differences have been resolved.
