Two rival student groups of the University of Ghana have today (October 8, 2016) been engaged in a dreadful clash; burning two cars in the process.
This was at the time when the University was officially receiving freshmen into the University at a matriculation ceremony for the 2016/2017 academic year.
The clash was between the Commonwealth Hall (Vandals) and their arch rival Mensah Sarbah Hall (Vikings).
The cause of the skirmish it not immediately known but eyewitness told Univers news that the vandals were processing and singing war songs to the matriculation grounds when they pass the territory of the rivals Vikings and raining insults at them.
The Vikings also responded by throwing stones and firing musketry and in the process two cars were damaged.
It took the swift response of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service to bring down the feud.
It will be recalled the similar confrontation was recorded at the 2015 matriculation.
But the Vice Chancellor of the University in his address condemned the clashes in no uncertain. According to Professor Ebenezer Owusu Oduro an investigation will be conducted and students found culpable will be punished in accordance with the University’s rules and regulations for junior members.
