President John Dramani Mahama has called on media practitioners to desist from propaganda activities in the build-up to the 2016 general elections.

President Mahama speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday, mentioned that the 2016 WASSCE results has been one of the best results by Ghanaian students in the past few years.

According to him, for the past 3 years, Ghanaian students have emerged as part of the best three students who sat for the external examination,  adding that there has been a significant improvement.

“I believe that media should go beyond the propaganda as we politicians do, As soon as the results came out some people came and talked about abysmal performance. For the last three years Ghanaians have topped” He said.

President Mahama also added that results has improved tremendously over the past few years, adding that it’s important the media highlight such achievements.

According to President Mahama, the WASSCE results in 2007 under ex-President John Agyekum Kufour’s tenure in office saw a Ghanaian students obtain a 10.5% pass rate as compared to the 24% pass  rate in the 2016 WASSCE.

The President further questioned critics of the Government who called the 24% WASSCE  2016 pass rate by Ghanaian students as abysmal.

President Mahama explained that, his Government is  however not satisfied with the performance of  Ghanaian student’s in the WASSCE, but he however asserted that the results keep improving every year.

”We are not satisfied with our results… but we have continued to improve, This year was said to be abysmal, they said education was declining, it is rather going up.. We are doing much better than we did in 2007, 2007 was our worst performance, 2012 was the best”
