Radio Univers has begun a five week workshop to train its volunteers in photo and video journalism. This is in line with the station’s vision to train world class broadcast journalists to tell the Ghanaian story the Ghanaian way. Each week will see two sessions with each session catering for five new volunteers.
The training which commenced yesterday 11th July 2016 is facilitated by Zach Putnam, a master’s degree student in multimedia journalism at the University of Oregon, USA. Mr. Putnam is an award winning photo and video journalist with over ten years’ experience.
The trainees will be taken through a crash course in how to tell true stories through images and videos. Volunteers by the end of the series of workshops are expected to manipulate lighting, color and exposure to produce high quality visuals to broadcast news stories
Trainees will also have the opportunity to try their hands on sophisticated professional cameras in the practical sessions of the workshop. They will also embark on weekly practical projects.
By the end of the first session, one of the trainees, Emmanuel Danso had this to say.
“It was enlightening. It’s one thing to know how to press the shutter button and the other to produce good pictures. The training will provide the much needed skill I need to be a good journalist.”
