The Head of Islamic Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service, Sheikh Armiyau Aminu has cautioned muslim pupils writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination not to force themselves through the ramadan fasting if they feel uncomfortable.
According to him, it is proper for candidates who face challenges in studying effectively during the examination to discontinue the fast till the end of the examination on Friday to enable them perform well.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Tuesday, Sheikh Arimeyaw noted that although the Ramadan fast inspires and encourages muslims, pupils who notice they have health challenges should not hesitate in breaking the fast.
“If you feel so much encouraged and inspired in the body to be able to go through the examination without any health problems then it is encouraged that we do so but if one has a health problem, for example, lack of concentration because he has not taken food and that is going to affect his examination in a negative way and his academic progress in life, my suggestion is to say that such a student should not fast and to take in something that will allow him the strength to be able to write the examination “, he said.
He however emphasized that persons who are able to fast must be involved in prayer to ensure they receive the full blessings on the exercise.
