Unemployment Not An Excuse To Waive Repayment Of Student Loans- Student Loan Trust Fund – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Mrs Sheila Naah Boamah has said unemployment should not be an excuse to not repay back loans which have supported recipients during their course of studies at the Tertiary level.

Speaking exclusively to Univers News, Mrs. Boamah explained that some unemployed graduates have attributed their inability to pay back the loans to the situation of not finding work to do after school.

“The Fund is not for profit making and therefore structured in such a way that unemployment should not be a significant barrier for paying. Recipients of the loan have a grace period of at least five years to start the repayment of the loans”, she said.

She further asserted that graduates should remember that the support they got from the fund has led to the improvement of their lives explaining that the non-payment of the loans will put the guarantors who guaranteed these loans out of goodwill and make them liable for the loans as well as making it impossible for others to access this opportunity they have enjoyed.

The CEO reiterated that the responsibility of the Fund was to make sure eligible Ghanaians were not prevented from accessing higher education because of financing was not to create jobs.
