The 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has ended successfully nationwide.
Interacting with Univers’ News David Nii Lartey, some Junior High School leavers at the St. Andrews Basic School mentioned that they were delighted they had successfully completed their Junior High school education. Some students were also confident of getting their first choice school, further describing their exams as a huge success.
The 2016 BECE results are expected to be released in two months to enable candidates get access into Senior High School to start the academic year in September.
The exams which started on Monday June 13 2016, had some challenges as some candidates in a school in Tema were reported have a mix-up with their index numbers. Pregnant candidates were also allowed to sit for the examinations.
Background
A total of 461,013 final-year Junior High School (JHS) students comprising 239,963 males and 221,050 females, were expected to take the examination at 1,598 centres across the country.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination of the West African Examination Council is taken simultaneously in Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Gambia.
