The Electoral Commission of the Distance Education Unit at the University of Ghana, has announced, it will hold their Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections on Saturday 18th June 2016.
Mr.Foster Amponsah, Deputy Electoral commissioner mentioned that plans are underway to get an additional polling station on the main Campus to enable all distance Education students who have moved in their halls of residence have an easy access to the voting.
Speaking on Radio Univers’ morning show Campus Exclusive, Mr. Foster Amponsah mentioned that any candidate who breaches the election rules will be punished.
“Our major concern has to do with the Election Day, during a certain parameter you will find some students still campaigning… we have warned them that any candidate found campaigning during a 100 m radius is going to have an issue with the electoral commission”
Mr. Foster Amponsah further revealed, an electronic voting system will be used for the elections.
Background
Students of the University of Ghana Distance Education unit will be electing new crops of Leaders for the 2016/2017 Academic year.
The elections will see Michael Lawson and Richard Kwesi Anim contest for the position of Distance education SRC President. Yaw Mainoo Yeboah and Siddique Mohammed Siddique are vying for the General Secretary slot.
Marquise Akua Harvey and Christiana Attipoe are contesting for the Women’s Commissioner Position.
Noah Amartey Narh is the sole candidate for the Treasurer.
The election will take place at the University of Ghana main campus and the Accra City Campus. Voting is scheduled to start at 9 am and end at 5pm.
