Some University of Ghana Students Want Mahatma Ghandi Statue ‘Pulled Down’ – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Some University of Ghana  students say they want the newly erected statue former of Indian civil rights activist Mahatma Ghandi on the university campus pulled down.

According to the students, Mahatma Ghandi did not contribute to the development of Africa, Ghana and the University of Ghana and for that reason did not deserve to have his statute on the University of Ghana campus.

Some students have also argued that Mahatma Ghandi was a racist who was only interested in the emancipation of blacks during the apartheid and often discriminated against blacks, adding that the University did not have to celebrate him.

UniversNews‘ Lord Klukpui has been interacting with some students at the university of Ghana and this is what they had to say.

The  statue was unveiled as part of activities marking Indian President H.E Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Ghana last month.

The statue is situated behind the Balme Library at the University of Ghana.
