The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) Ltd. has successfully funded the building of a lecture hall complex at the University of Ghana.
The two-thousand (2000) capacity lecture hall was solely funded by the bank at the cost of 4.9million Ghana Cedis.
Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana inaugurated the building complex at a ceremony held on Friday, July 15 2016 at the University. The building is expected to ease pressure on existing lecture halls especially during examination periods.
According to Mr.Samuel Sarpong, the acting managing director of GCB, the building will facilitate examination to be conducted within two weeks instead of the usual three weeks.
Mr. Enoch Amartey, Director of Academic Affairs at the university expressed his excitement at the completion of the building complex.
According to him, the construction which began in 2003 had stalled several times mainly due to managerial transitions and he couldn’t be any happier at its eventual completion.
“This building started in 2003 and stopped at the foundation level because the then managing director left. It took much convincing to get his successor to continue the project. But he also left eventually. When the current manager assumed office, it was also a herculean task convincing him to continue the project. And he has made me very happy seeing it through. I am a very happy man today.”
The multipurpose edifice will by August this year, host some banking halls to facilitate banking activities on campus.
The facility will be managed by a central committee yet to be constituted.
