The Youth association of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, have given government a one week ultimatum to settle all feeding grant arrears owed second cycle Institutions in the three regions in the North, or they will hit to the streets to press for their demands.

“If Government fails to get the Children back to school, we will get the children on the streets by next week, we will get all of them to the streets, if it doesn’t solve the problem we will get another mechanism”  He said.

According to the spokesperson of the Group, Stanley Abopaam all senior high school boarding students, In the Northern regions have been sent home indefinitely as a result of Government’s failure to pay the feeding grant for the past 2 academic years, adding that this is a deliberate effort by government to keep the Northern regions under-developed.

“They are deliberately doing this to perpetually keep the North under-developed, we all know and agreed that the three Northern regions are the poorest in this country, we have also accepted that in order to bridge the development gap, there was an urgent need to educate this people”

In an Interview on Radio Univers’ morning show, Campus Exclusive, Mr. Stanley Abopaam also mentioned that government is prioritizing areas it will get votes from and neglecting areas that can rather guarantee the future of the country.

“The leadership of this Country rationally found it prudent to fund YEA, what will be the use of YEA , If we don’t have people leaving  in second-cycle institutions to join them, What will be the use of SADA if the children in the North can’t be educated” He queried.

Mr. Stanley Abopaam also accused  Governments for failing to appropriately address issues, According to him, the issue of arrears in feeding grants has become a perennial problem that needed to be addressed as soon as possible
