Come Clear On Utility Bills Or Face Our Wrath- GUPS Tells Government – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The Ghana Union of Professional students (GUPS) has issued a statement asking Government to come out clear on the proposed move to charge students with utility bills or face their wrath.

According to the National President of the Group, Mawuli Elorm Kwawu a formal complaint has been lodged at the Ministry of Education to address the issue appropriately.

“We submitted a comprehensive position paper to the Minister of Education on how to manage the issue of the utilities, now subsequently what we keep hearing is Government will continue to bear the cost of utility. That is what the Minister of Education told the National Union of Ghana students”

Speaking to Univers News’ Mensa Duncan, Mawuli Elorm Kwawu added that Government has been inconsistent on the utility bill issue and must come out to boldly declare their stand on the issue or his outfit will resort to a series of aggressive coordinated actions to press for their demands.

Mr. Kwawu further called on all stakeholders to remain calm even as the union takes steps to resolve the issue.

Below is the full Statement

GUPS ON UTILITY ISSUES

The Ghana Union of Professional Students has received pockets of concerns from some of its component institutions over payment of utility bills.

The Union has since then through NUGS submitted a formal complaint to the Ministry of Education to once again make clear their stance and put this matter to rest. As to why some head of Institutions would continue billing students against a government secular, stating clearly that they (government) would bear the cost of utility is a matter that has since left us in bewilderment.

It is also instructive to note that the Union has submitted a comprehensive position paper to government on how to manage the utility issue. We entreat our constituents to remain patient as we resolve the issue, and that this is the first step and shall be accompanied by series of aggressive coordinated actions if utility costs are not taken off students.

Signed:Elorm Mawuli Kwawu

National President.
