The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey has noted that the Service is committed to interrogating systems to make sure high school graduates pay outstanding debt they owe their alma mater.
Whilst acknowledging the drawbacks technology brings to bear to make students defray their debt because students can now access their results online without necessarily having to clear themselves but Mr. Bettey said the Ghana Education Service is doing its best to identify the students to settle their debt before having their results released online.
Speaking on Univers’ current affairs and analysis program, Behind the Headlines, Mr. Bettey however indicated that there had been neither complaints from school heads nor the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) over settlement of debts by students this year.
“Ghana Education Service has done its best to resolve this issue… With the use of technology, we are able to detect a lot of these things and we will continue to use technology to make sure there is sanity as far as examination is concerned. So with the headmasters and others, we haven’t had any problems as far as examination is concerned this year”, he explained.
In 2014 the Ghana Education Service (GES) issued a directive indicating that senior high school candidates of the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) who owe fees will have their results withheld until they have cleared their indebtedness to their schools
Rev. Jonathan Bettey further noted an improvement in this year’s results of the WASSCE over the 2015 performance. He further alluded to the fact that the introduction of the Item Differentia Profile (IDP) software, had proven effective in apprehending candidates who cheated in the examination room are apprehended.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has released provisional results for the 2016 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
On Tuesday, WAEC released the provisional 2016 WASSCE results and in a statement signed by Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe revealed that 1,576 candidates had some of their subjects results cancelled, while 598 candidates had their entire results cancelled.
