President of the University of Ghana Medical school Kwabena Asabere, has revealed that medical students at the University of Ghana have been faced with accommodation challenges on the korle bu campus due to the increase in the number of admitted medical students and the new graduate entry medical program.
Speaking in an Exclusive Interview with Univers News, he mentioned that final year students on the Korle bu campus have resorted to renting rooms near the Korle bu teaching hospital, a development which poses a lot of security threats to students, because it has led to some students being attacked in the past.
“The number of admission has increased and the introduction of the graduate student medical program has worsened the situation.. what we know is that the school authorities have gone into an agreement with some people to build hostels on the Korle bu Campus, but as it stands now, we are facing a huge challenge ”
In a related development, Kwabena Asabere lauded the Esinam Seade led SRC administration for being actively involved in happenings on the korle bu campus.
According to him, the 50-50 fee payment module for medical school students initiated by the University of Ghana SRC President was very helpful because the previous 70- 30% payment structure was a burden for majority of students on the Korle bu campus.
“It was part of my campaign message that I’ll fight for the 50-50 payment modality especially for those doing the graduate entry medical program, but at the start of the Esinam administration, they brought the 50-50 payment.. Communication with this administration has been good, I am constant touch with them”
Speaking in an exclusive Interview with Univers News, He also commended the SRC President, Esinam Seade for communicating more with the student leadership of the University of Ghana Medical school.
He also mentioned that this development has been welcoming news to students on the University of Ghana Medical school, he added that over the past few years successive SRC administrations neglected students on the Korle bu.
