President of India, His Excellency Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has lauded the acheivements of Ghana for its significant gains in terms of economic and social development
Speaking at the Indian Ghana Business Forum at the University of Ghana, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee mentioned that Ghana’s human resources were great assests that needed to be taken advantage of to develop the country.
He further revealed that India’s seed allocations and scholarships awarded to Ghanaian students has been increased from 20 to 40 annually.
“I’m happy to announce that the Government of India has decided to increase the seed allocations from 250 to 300 slots, and increase the number of annual scholarships and other Indian schemes from 20 to 40, I hope that students and eligible persons from Ghana will fully utilize this slot”
Mr. Pranab Mukherjee also commended Ghana for its Democratic credentials and for the Solidarity the Ghana Government showed to affected African countries during the 2014 Ebola Outbreak.
“I Believe Ghana is already moving in the right direction, your rapid progress in realizing the millennium development goals is commendable, your social and religious harmony is exemplary and peace and stability that Prevails in this country.. The exceptional solidarity to Ebola affected countries is worthy of admiration”
The address by the Indian President was on the theme “India’s Partnership with Ghana: Youth and Education”.
Mr. Pranab Mukherjee also used the occassion to unveil a statute of civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi on the University of Ghana Campus. The statute was a gift by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.
President Mukherjee’s visit to the University of Ghana forms part of his 3-nation tour of Africa.
He is expected to leave for the Ivory Coast later today.
