Radio Univers’ Abdul Karim Ibrahim together with his debate partner Joel Telfer Jnr, SRC Speaker of Assembly for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) emerged winners of the just ended Accra Open Debate Tournament at the University of Ghana.
The debate competition saw 24 different teams from West Africa compete for the Ultimate.
Abdul Karim Ibrahim and Joel Telfer Jnr won the competition for the second year running after winning the maiden edition a year ago.
The Accra Open debate competition is an open west African tournament where participants (mostly students in tertiary institutions) are allowed to partner debaters of their choice irrespective of their schools and nationality.
Participants were made to debate on key motions that pertain to the development of the African continent.
Abdul Karim Ibrahim who emerged winner together with his team mate,Joel Telfer Jnr is also the new host of Radio Univers’ morning show, Campus Exclusive. Abdul Karim Ibrahim is also the immediate past president of the University of Ghana debate society and was recently adjudged student journalist of the year at the 2016 SRC excellent awards.
The debate competition that took place on the 11th of June to the 13th of June 2016 was sponsored by the African Heights Foundation.
