UG SRC Backs Financial Directorate Over Change In Residential Fees – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Residents of the four new halls namely Dr. Hilla Liman Hall, Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall, Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall and Jean Nelson Aka Hall of the University of Ghana will have to pay an additional GH¢50 for their residential fees for the 2016/2017 academic year.

In a communiqué recently issued by the Finance Directorate of the University of Ghana and circulated by Students Representative Council on social media, residents of the halls will be paying GH¢1,345.00 instead of  GH¢1.295.00 earlier indicated.

Speaking to Univers news on the sidelines of the increment, acting Public Relations Officer of the University of Ghana SRC, Mr. Schandorf Ayirebi-Acquah  said the change must not be viewed by residents as a deliberate increase of  the fees but is actually the original amount agreed on by the finance directorate.

“It is not as if there has been an increment. The current figure we have circulated is what was supposed to have been circulated earlier but the finance directorate made us understand that there was an error in the figure they posted online”- He said.

Mr. Ayirebi-Acquah further debunked allegations that the GH₵50 increase in residential fees was for the earlier proposed and scrapped maintenance charges.

“But I want state on record that that maintenance fee has actually been scrapped and so the GH¢50 current addition is not for the maintenance”- He added.

Residents of the halls have expressed dissatisfaction as they will be expected to pay not less that 50% of the residential fees before being allowed accommodation come the next academic year.
