The University of Ghana has rebranded its name from “Counseling and Placement Centre” to the “Careers and Counseling Centre.” A decision it says will better serve its purpose of guiding students towards making the right choices in both their academic and personal lives.
According to management, the former name “Counseling and Placement Centre” served best as one of its primary jobs was to place students of the University in appropriate internship vacancies on the job market.
However, IT Support personnel from the rebranded Careers and Counseling Centre Mr. Dennis Owusu speaking on behalf of the centre asserted that the move was necessary as it best sells the innovative programs the centre now runs to equip students the necessary skills needed for the job market.
“Now what we doing is we are running a lot of services more than the placement and the counseling. Initially when we talk about counseling and placement people think it’s only about attachment letters and all about counseling. But no; now we have the “Employability Hub,” we have an office at the Jubilee Hall, we have the “Enterprise Zone” so because of all those services and the training we are offering to students concerning their careers, that how we decided to rebrand the name.”- He said.
Mr. Dennis Owusu is further encouraging all students to take advantage of the free services of the Careers and Counseling Centre to secure a place on the job market immediately after graduation.
“So I will entreat students. It’s free! The services of the place are free. They [students] should come and be beneficiaries.”
He made these comments on Radio Univers Morning show Campus Exclusive.
