UG Students Frown On ECG’s Intended Nationwide Power Cut – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

The students of the University Of Ghana have expressed worry over the declaration of a nationwide power cut on Friday by the Electricity Company of Ghana due to its pending issue of privatization by the government of Ghana.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been accused of numerous wrong doings by the general public. Some of which are the rampant power cuts experienced in various areas of the country, which have led to many fire outbreaks.

The  workers of the company sparked off with a three-day demonstration to prevent the government from privatizing the company. They therefore declared that they may carry out a nationwide power cut popularly known as ‘Dumsor’ on Friday as a threat to the government of Ghana.

Speaking to Univers News, some students of the University Of Ghana  in full agreement with the government expressed their concern  in the privatization of the company and also their distaste in  the declaration of total darkness by the ECG.

It is not fair, one may have an activity this Friday, if the lights goes off , how will the activity come up and if one has stuff in his or her fridge, they will go bad.

I believe they should privatize ECG, there are a lot of corruption issues going on at the ECG.They are thinking about their personal interest, they are not thinking about the nationwide interest, so i think the government should go ahead and privatize ECG.

I don’t think its a good idea, causing Dumsor on Friday may cause a lot of mayhem in the country. There are students, workers and business men and also people running administration and doing so many things. They causing a Dumsor will pose a lot of problems in the country.

I don’t know why they should even go on strike, if they are really working hard, why are they afraid of it being privatized!
