University of Ghana Inaugurates Registry Staff Canteen – Radio Univers 105.7 | Voice of Legon

Vice chancellor of the University of Ghana Prof. Ernest Aryeetey has inaugurated a sixty (60) seating capacity Registry Staff Canteen. The canteen is expected to primarily cater for the eating needs of the over two hundred (200) staff that work at the registry of the University.

Prior to the establishment of the canteen, staff of the registry were forced to walk quite a distance to purchase food during lunch hours. The food they had the inconvenience of consuming outside in the open or in their offices. According to the Vice chancellor, this situation influenced him to initiate processes to build a permanent and hygienic canteen for the staff. He noted that the decision was falls in line with the University’s vision of becoming a world class academic institution.

“As a university we are obligated to the welfare of staff and other stakeholders of the university so doing this for them was a proper thing, it was very much in line with our strategic plan.” he said.

Prof. Aryeetey further urged staff to take advantage of the facility by patronizing it to relieve them of the stress they previously experienced. He also assured them that the food served at the canteen will be affordable.

Director of the Human Resource and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD) Mr. Daniel Baidoo in an interview with Univers News disclosed that the University is reviewing applications of prospective caterers for the facility and qualified applicants will commence operations by the end of next month.

“There is a subcommittee going through the process of identifying and selecting the best vendors who have applied in response to an advert the university placed in the newspapers. We believe that latest by the end of August this will be complete.”
