The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) are yet to awards the winners of the just ended National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) which was held at the University of Ghana after an earlier promise to sponsor the competition prior to its commencement.
Speaking on Radio Univers morning show Campus Exclusive, President of NUGS, Micheal Paa-Quecy Adu, mentioned that the award will be given to Adisadel College winners of the 2016 NSMQ during the Union’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
“There will be an Award and Dinner ceremony as part of the celebration. It is during this event that Adisco will be given the award” he said.
President Micheal Paa-Quecy Adu was however unable to disclose the date for the NUGS 50th Anniversary Celebration and the kind of award to be given out to Adisadel College.
He further revealed plans are far advanced to make the sponsorship of the NSMQ by the NUGS an annual affair.
According to him, this new initiative will help conscientize senior high school students about the Union and also enable senior high school students to contribute towards the activities of the Union.
Background
Prior to the commencement of the 2016 NSMQ, NUGS President Paa-Quecy Adu in an exclusive Interview with Univers News mentioned that his outfit will be a part sponsor of the quiz competition.
However, the 2016 NSMQ National Coordinator, Samuel Narte Adjor revealed that NUGS are yet to fulfill their promise of giving out the price packages to the winners.
Adisadel College beat Mfantsipim School and Opoku Ware School in the grande finale to emerge winners of the competition.
For winning the competition, Adisadel College took home GHC 40,000 whilst the contestants together with their teachers who accompanied them received GHC 15,000 each.
